Instituto do Emprego e da Formação Profissional
People receiving unemployment benefit (or the initial social unemployment benefit) can receive the full amount of their remaining benefit in one payment to create their own full-time job: setting up a company, buying a business, joining an existing company as a partner (by capital increase only) or starting out as a sole trader or self-employed worker. The business plan must be financially viable; IEFP gives an opinion and Social Security decides (usually 60 to 90 working days). It can be combined with subsidised, guaranteed loans (MICROINVEST up to €20,000; INVEST+ up to €100,000 for investments of €20,000 to €200,000) and free technical support. Applicants must be at least 18 and have no debts to the Tax Authority, Social Security or IEFP; the activity and jobs must be kept for at least 3 years, with no other paid work. Apply at the local job centre. Part of the PAECPE programme.
